Huddersfield Town's head of football operations David Webb says some first-team players could leave the John Smiths' Stadium in the upcoming January transfer window.

Town have seen 14 players leave the club in one way or another since relegation from the Premier League but David Webb has said that any other players leaving the club will only do so if it is right for the club.

Webb told BBC Radio Leeds' West Yorkshire Sport daily show that the club are prepared to deal with the situation should any players leave the club over the January window.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds' last week, Webb said: "There's always going to be that transition of players where players will see themselves and expectations where they might see their career paths or their journey somewhere else, i.e. back to the Premier League or different clubs in the Bundesliga or La Liga et cetera."

"We were aware of that and obviously there could be a situation in January where we look at that into more depth and look at what's right for the club and for the players, for the individuals, and assess that accordingly," Webb added.

On who Town may look to sign in January, Webb revealed that it is something they haven't specifically looked into yet heading towards the festive period.

"It's interesting at the moment because we haven't been given a specific position as such because Danny and Nicky [Cowley] have only been in since September so they're still assessing the squad, if you like, getting to know the characters, getting to know the individuals, getting to know the systems."

Webb didn't rule out the Terriers delving into the loan market, saying: "When you've got the Premier League and an abundance of talent especially in the under-23s or players on the fringe of Premier League teams and not quite getting games, they'll look to get out and develop those players."  "

"We wouldn't be averse if the right options come available to us and players that fit the qualities that we want," Webb added.

The Verdict

Players such as Florent Hadergjonaj have been linked recently with moves away from Town and with the likes of Aaron Mooy already away on loan it seems more players could leave West Yorkshire in January.

Webb seems to be opting for a smart response should that be the case and taking each departure as it comes should they happen.

Loanees Trevor Chalobah and Kamil Grabara have already become first team regulars and Webb dropped a big hint that Town may look into the loan market if they were to strengthen the squad in January.

The current loanees have impressed and although a play-off push may be optimistic for Town, it will be relieving for fans to see the club operate within their means following Premier League relegation.
