Fulham made it three wins in four as they look to kick-start their season with an impressive 4-2 win at Cardiff on Boxing Day.

It was the Welsh side’s first defeat on their own patch which demonstrates what a good win it was for the Londoners.

The Cottagers were 2-0 up before a Kenneth Zohore wonder goal pulled one back, but Ryan Sessegnon gave Fulham another cushion. However, Callum Paterson’s injury time header set up a nervy finish but Stefan Johansen sealed the win on the break with a fine finish.

Even though he wasn’t on the scoresheet, key man Tom Cairney played a key role in the win and took to twitter to share his delight afterwards.

He also had a cheeky dig at Cardiff and their approach, showing a picture where he was taken out and adding that it seemed to happen a lot yesterday from Neil Warnock’s men.

However, it was all about the three points and the former Blackburn man also added that it made up for spending Christmas night in a hotel with his teammates!

The Verdict

As Cairney states, this was a big win for Fulham and it can be the sort of result that really allows them to build momentum.

Fulham are underachieving this season, they all know that, but they are just beginning to show signs of the side that did so well in the last campaign.

As for the treatment from Cardiff, Cairney will be used to that having come up against several Warnock sides over the years, who always play with a high intensity.
