Gary Rowett has confirmed that Mason Bennett and Ryan Leonard will both play in a Millwall reserve game against Norwich on Monday, according to London News Online.

The pair have recently returned to training after lengthy injury layoffs, but were not involved in Sunday's matchday squad for the 2-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion at The Den.

Speaking to the website, Gary Rowett said that he wants both players to gain more match sharpness. He plans to give Leonard and Bennett 45 minutes for the reserves.

"I just felt they haven’t quite had enough training exposure for them not to be a risk in the game [against West Brom] and I didn’t want to do that."

He also added that the Norwich game should be a good  barometer in terms of how both players can cope with the intensity of a full-on match.

“If I feel like they are up to speed after today then they will certainly be available for Wednesday and Saturday," Rowett said.

“They were both available for the last game but training is training – games are different. We’ll see how they do today."

Leonard has not been available since October after sustaining damage to his knee in the game against Leeds.

Meanwhile, Bennett, who joined the Lions on loan in January from Derby, has been out since November with an ankle injury. That has delayed the chance for him to make his Millwall debut thus far.

The Verdict

Both Bennett and Leonard getting minutes for the reserves will be a step in the right direction.

Should they come through unscathed, Rowett will definitely be thinking about including them in his next 18-man squad for the game against Fulham on Wednesday night.

Having Bennett and Leonard back in the fold will add some much needed squad depth to the team.
