The future of Leeds United winger Jack Clarke has been a heavily-debated topic amongst the Elland Road faithful in recent weeks.

Clarke has struggled for much-needed game time since he returned to Leeds on loan, after completing his move to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this season.

The 18-year-old has been restricted to just two appearances so far this season, and that has led to questions as to whether Spurs would consider recalling Clarke back to the club early from his loan spell in Yorkshire.

Spurs boss Maurico Pochettino has revealed (quotes sourced from football.london) that his side aren't considering calling Clarke back early at the moment though, but insists he isn't thinking about the winger's future.

"Today, no. Today no. But football is dynamic. It always changes.

"You know we have the people to look after Jack Clarke. We have the structure to look after him. I cannot think too much about Jack Clarke."

Pochettino is under pressure to find positive results heading into their game against Watford this weekend, and labelled that any questions over Clarke's future as 'wasting time'.

"Of course I have all the reports every week but I cannot be focusing on what is going to happen with him in January.

"I need to be trying to help my players and the team today because we need to win on Saturday and on Tuesday. It is wasting time, with all my respect to Jack Clarke."

The Spurs boss remained tight-lipped on Clarke's future, and wouldn't be drawn into making a decision on whether he would be recalled in the future if he continues to be frozen out of Marcelo Bielsa's starting XI at Leeds.

"Jack Clarke is at Leeds now. He is playing for Leeds. He is our player but he is on loan. Of course, if you say to me today about Jack Clarke, I don't know because today he has not got a place to come with us.

"What is going to happen in a few months, I don’t know."

Leeds are next in action on Saturday when they take on Birmingham City at Elland Road, and it'll be interesting to see whether Clarke will feature at all in what could be a tricky test for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

The Verdict:

Pochettino is clearly a manager under pressure heading into their game against Watford this weekend.

Spurs have struggled so far this season, and with Clarke rarely featuring for Leeds in his loan spell with Marcelo Bielsa's side, it would have made sense for the Premier League side to recall him in January.

But I'm still not convinced that Clarke's move to Spurs was the right call in the first place, as I find it hard to believe that he'll feature for them anytime soon, especially if he can't get in the Leeds team at this moment in time.
