Reading FC were recently linked with a move for AFC Wimbledon striker, Joe Pigott according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Pigott was in impressive form for much of last season, and scored 18 goals to help Wimbledon retain their League One status for another year.

A fee in the region of £250,000 has been quoted, and it could be enough for the Royals to striker a deal with Wally Downes' side for their talisman.

In an interview with South London Press (quotes sourced from London News Online), Downes revealed that the club have received no bids for their star striker.

"No, none.

"I imagine there will be lots of clubs interested in someone who has scored the goals he has scored – and the amount of goals that he has scored."

Downes went on to admit that he isn't surprised to see Pigott attracting interest from other clubs, but stated that the forward is one a long and secure contract heading into the summer.

"He is bound to be of interest to any club looking to sign a striker. But he is on a long, secure contract from last season.

According to The Sun, Reading are currently under a transfer ban, which means they will have to move players on before making any new signings.

The Verdict:

I'd be surprised if bids aren't submitted for Pigott before the transfer window closes.

He really impressed me last season with AFC Wimbledon, and I think he deserves a shot at a higher level, which a team like Reading could offer.

He's within Reading's budget as well, and I think it's only a matter of time before they submit an offer for Pigott, as they need more depth in attack heading into next season.
