Dr Tony Xia has delivered an insight into how Aston Villa are going to deal this summer, as they put plans in place ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

After missing out on promotion back to the Premier League last season, Villa are in a difficult financial situation, with Xia writing an open letter to the club’s supporters last night, clarifying a number of issues.

In that letter, Xia notes that a reality check is in need over performance and expectation at Villa Park, before going on to talk about plans for next season.

The club’s owner states that Villa will need to be working smartly in the transfer window, whilst highlighting the need to bring some of the club’s talented youngsters through.

Xia then goes on to highlight the importance of using Steve Bruce’s experience, handing his backing to Villa’s manager ahead of the new season.

It has been widely reported that to raise funds this summer, Villa will have to sell players, with Jack Grealish amongst those heading for the exit door.

The 22-year-old midfielder is Villa’s prized asset, having enjoyed a fine spell last season.

The midfielder returned three goals and six assists in the Championship, as Villa finished fourth.

The Verdict

It appears that Xia is admitting that player sales are inevitable this summer.

Villa need to raise cash for a number of reasons, but also to strengthen their own squad.

Selling an asset like Grealish should raise a vital amount of money for Xia.
