Birmingham City have not made contact with Peterborough over Jack Marriott despite speculation linking the striker with a move to the West Midlands.

Marriott, who scored an astonishing 27 goals in League One last season, is one of the most in-demand players in the EFL with a host of Championship sides considering the possibility of making an offer.

However, The Posh director of football, former Blues boss Barry Fry, told the Brimingham Mail there has been nothing from his old club - but called on them to change that!

"I have got seven or eight clubs in a bidding war for him but I have not heard from Birmingham. Blues have been in difficulties of late so I would love him to go there because he is a proper goalscorer."

"Wherever he is going to go he is going to have them knocking on the door of getting into the Premier League. I would love him to go to Birmingham City because he is a different class."

Garry Monk is sure to make several additions to his squad as he looks to transform the side this summer.

The Verdict

As Fry says, Marriott would be a great signing for Birmingham but he would be for most of the Championship.

Finding a goalscorer is a huge task for all clubs and the reality is he will command a hefty fee that may put him out of Monk's reach.

Nevertheless, it's the sort of player Blues should be after and a new number nine has to be a priority this summer.
