Lyle Taylor's latest contract offer has been withdrawn by Charlton's new owners, East Street Investments, according to London News Online.

ESI are now willing to listen to offers for Taylor from other clubs, but have not chosen to place him on the transfer list.

London News Online also state that ESI offered a vastly improved deal to Taylor, which would've run until 2022.

Taylor is now in the final six months of his contract at The Valley, and will be available for a free transfer this summer is if his current deal is not extended. This transfer window is also the last chance for the club to cash in on the forward.

QUIZ: How much can you remember about Charlton's 2016/17 season?

It is the second time in the last six months that the 29-year-old has turned down improved terms from the club.

Also reported by London News Online, Lee Bowyer revealed last month that Taylor had declined an improved offer from former owner Roland Duchatelet.

Taylor also chose not to extend his contract in his final year at AFC Wimbledon, eventually leaving the Dons on a free transfer for Charlton in the summer of 2018.

Bids from Brentford for the Charlton forward were turned down in the summer. Taylor has also been linked with a move to Rangers in the last month.

The Montserrat international has spent the majority of the campaign out with a knee injury that was sustained in September, only returning for his side towards the end of last month.

However, Taylor is currently out injured once again with a thigh problem that will keep him out for a minimum of three weeks, leaving academy graduate Josh Davison as the club's only fully-fit striker.

Taylor has scored seven goals in thirteen appearances for Charlton so far this term.

The Verdict

This latest development will be an unwanted blow for Charlton fans, who thought it would be likely that Taylor would extend his current deal if better terms were offered from the new ownership structure. That has proved not to be the case.

Questions will now arise about Taylor's motives, and whether the striker is actively seeking a move away from SE7. It has the potential to turn the supporters against a current fan favourite.

Charlton have been linked with Blackpool forward Armand Gnanduillet as a potential replacement.
