Jack Grealish’s proposed new Aston Villa deal will include a buyout clause, which could well open the door for Tottenham to resurrect their interest in the midfielder in January.

After weeks of speculation, Grealish remained at Villa Park during transfer deadline day yesterday, with the Sky Bet Championship outfit resisting the temptation to cash in on Spurs’ £25m bid.

The 22-year-old was disappointed to miss out on a chance of Premier League and Champions League football under Mauricio Pochettino, but according to The Sun, will be offered fresh terms at Villa Park.

Should he sign his new deal with his boyhood club, a £30m buyout clause will be included, which The Sun hint could spark Spurs’ interest up again when the January transfer window opens.

Last year, Grealish was influential for Steve Bruce’s side in the Championship, scoring three goal and registering six assists, helping Villa to fourth in the table and the play-off final.

The playmaker started the new Championship season in good form too, helping Villa to a 3-1 victory over Hull City on Monday evening.

Grealish and Villa return to Villa Park tomorrow, welcoming Wigan Athletic.

The Verdict

Whilst it is good news that Grealish will get a new deal, a £30m buyout clause will eventually lead to his departure if Villa aren’t looking set for promotion.

There is no denying Grealish’s commitment to Villa, but you can’t deny a player of his quality the chance to play in the Premier League.
