Derby could still be without striker Martyn Waghorn as they look to overturn a one goal deficit against Leeds United in the play-offs.

Boss Frank Lampard provided an update on several injured players when speaking to Derbyshire Live and revealed that he will give the target man time to prove his fitness.

"Waghorn is in a similar situation (to last week). He broke down on Friday but he is desperate to be involved and is training as we speak. So he will be assessed up until the last moment to try to get him involved. He's a big miss for us."

However, there was more positive news on two other players, with Ashley Cole expected to be available and he explained that Duane Holmes substitution on Saturday was not because of injury.

"Ashley trained today, so he could be involved. Duane missed two or three weeks of training with the thigh strain before, then got cramp against West Brom. It was a choice, in-game, to be fair, but with a little bit of that in mind from my part."

The Rams lost the first leg against Leeds 1-0 at Pride Park.

The Verdict

Waghorn is a key player for Derby and he would give the team a real presence and outlet up top that they need because Dave Nugent struggled on Saturday.

But, the update doesn't sound great from Lampard and the fans will no doubt be worried by that, although there are still other options.

The news on Cole and Holmes is pleasing and it's going to be a real big effort from everyone involved if Derby are to turn things around.
