Derby County defender Curtis Davies has revealed that he didn't think about leaving the club despite speculation linking him with a move to Stoke City.

The centre-back had an outstanding season for the Rams and became a fan favourite with his performances. Therefore, when Gary Rowett left to join the Potters, reports suggested Davies would follow.

However, the 33-year old recently signed a new two-year deal under Frank Lampard and revealed just how happy he is at Pride Park.

"I think there's a lot of speculation that goes on but, ultimately, nothing came of it and I was glad to sign my contract here," he told the Derbyshire Telegraph.

"I've had a good year and I believe that I have connected well with the fans. I feel like I have a special bond, so I want to continue that for as long as possible."

The former Birmingham man also added how he is looking forward to working under his new boss.

"I'm quite excited to work with the new manager, and he's not a bad ally to have in football. If you can do well for him, then you never know what happens in the future."

The Verdict

Getting Davies to committ his future to the Rams was a great early move by Lampard because he was superb for them last season.

He has great experience but is stil clearly more than capable of playing at this level despite his age.

Such performances have build a good relationship with the fans, as Davies recognised, and now all involved can concentrate on what will be a new era for the club.
