Charlton midfielder Jonny Williams has been ruled out for two months with a knee injury.

It's devastating news for the player who has had a career riddled by injuries. He was finally starting to get back up to speed, and had made 12 appearances in the Championship for Charlton so far this campaign.

The 26-year-old picked up the injury last Saturday during the 3-0 victory over Derby County at the Valley. It's a major blow for the Addicks, which was made worse by the fact that Williams had to have an operation on Tuesday, prolonging the amount of time he would be out for.

He will also miss crucial qualifiers for Wales in November, leaving Ryan Giggs with some serious thinking to do. Bowyer has stated that it's a real disappointment, for the player and the club.

Speaking to BBC Radio London, Bowyer said: "It is disappointing because he has been doing well for us and flying.

"It is minimum eight weeks and then we have to get him fit."

The Verdict

What a massive blow this is for both the player and Charlton as a club. Williams has been fantastic and has provided that bit of energy and flair on a number of occasions for the Addicks.

He'll have to make sure that when he comes back his recovery has been on point as he's suffered a lot of injuries in the past few years and won't want to suffer once more in the future.

He has to find a way of getting through yet another blow, and he's probably feeling very down both physically and mentally. Just when he thought that he was finally past his problems a new injury has cropped up.
