Brentford will have influential midfield pair Kamohelo Mokotjo and Said Benrahma involved against Leeds United on Wednesday, although boss Thomas Frank admitted they won't start.

The two players were crucial to the Bees last season, with Mokotjo impressing with his energy in the middle of the park and Benrahma establishing himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the league.

However, injuries have disrupted the duo's pre-season but they did make the matchday squad for the draw with Hull on Saturday, with Benrahma coming on as a late substitute.

And, speaking to the club's media ahead of the tough trip to Leeds in the week, Frank gave an update on where the two key men are at in terms of their fitness.

"They are getting closer and closer. They can't start yet but they are getting closer and closer to that point."

The Londoners have endured a pretty tough start to the season, picking up four points from their opening three games ahead of the clash at Elland Road, with Marcelo Bielsa's side currently top of the Championship at this early stage.

The Verdict

Mokotjo and Benrahma are two quality players at this level, particularly the latter, so the fact they are closing in on a return to the first XI is a huge boost for the Bees.

Frank's comments suggest that they will both be involved on Wednesday, although from the bench.

Given we are only three games into the campaign there is no point in Brentford risking the duo and it's about integrating them back into the team slowly to ensure they don't suffer a setback.
