Bradford City chairman Edin Rahic has strongly dismissed suggestions that he interferes with the team selection at the club, as David Hopkin was unveiled as the new Bantams boss.

The German owner has been a controversial figure at times since taking over the Yorkshire club and has certainly not been scared to make some big decisions.

The latest saw Michael Collins sacked as head-coach just six league games in charge, after the club had surprised many by appointing the 32-year-old, who became the youngest boss in English professional football.

However, the early season didn't go to plan and former player Hopkin, who excelled as manager of Livingston, has taken over.

And, at the press conference for the 48-year-old, Rahic was asked about rumours that he is very involved when it comes to picking the team, but he made it clear that wasn't the case when speaking to BBC Radio Leeds:

"I don't know where this discussion is coming from. How can a chairman pick the team? You can ask the former managers and head-coaches, I've never picked a team."

The Verdict

It would be massively undermining to the manager if a chairman got involved in team selection and it's completely wrong, so Bradford fans will be glad that's not the case.

Of course, Rahic would say that anyway, but he does seem genuine in the way he speaks about this issue.

Now, if the team are to be successful he needs to back Hopkin as much as he can and leave him to do his job, as he's proven in Scotland that he is a good manager.
