Key Blackpool figure addresses 23-year-old’s current situation at the club

Blackpool head coach Michael Appleton has admitted that Josh Bowler has not been the subject of a fresh approach from a potential suitor in recent weeks.

The winger has attracted interest from elsewhere this year with the Seasiders opting to turn down bids from AFC Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest during the previous transfer window.

Following their promotion to the Premier League, the Cherries have reignited their interest in Bowler and are believed to be lining up a £1m bid for him in an attempt to secure his services.

Blackpool turned an offer in excess of £3m from Bournemouth for the 23-year-old in January and opted to trigger an option in his contract in May that will see him remain at the club for another year.

With the Seasiders set to face Reading on July 30th, Bowler is currently expected to feature for the club in this particular fixture as things stand.

Making reference to Bowler, Appleton has admitted that an approach hasn’t been made by another team for the winger and that the club are already planning ahead to cover the possibility of him moving on to pastures new.

Speaking to The Gazette, Appleton said: “As a club, from what I’ve been told, we haven’t really heard too much over the last couple of weeks since I walked into the building.

“I think it will be a little bit fluid with people like Josh, because you’ve got to be aware and respect the fact that other teams are going to be interested and then maintain your level of due diligence in you market so that, if he does go, we’ve got the right type of people to come in and replace him.”

The Verdict

Whereas there is still plenty of time for Bournemouth or another club to submit a bid for Bowler, the winger is on course to be available for their opening fixtures of the season.

When you consider that Bowler managed to produce some impressive performances in the previous campaign, there is no reason why he cannot make a positive start to the new term.

As well as scoring seven goals in the Championship last season, the winger also provided three assists for his team-mates in 42 appearances at this level.

Given that there is no guarantee that Blackpool will be able to keep Bowler at the club, their decision to line up a potential replacement for him is certainly a wise move.
