Birmingham City defender Michael Morrison has revealed the club are looking to move up the table quickly - and trying to leapfrog Aston Villa.

After an unbeaten run of eight games, which includes two wins their last four, Blues have moved clear of the relegation zone and are just a point behind Villa who sit in 15th place.

The two sides are set to meet on November 25 in what should be a feisty clash and Morrison is hoping that Blues will be ahead of their second-city rivals by then.

"Certainly I think we are looking positive, we are looking up the league rather than down the league and we are not far from catching Villa," he told Birmingham Live.

"I think it would be symbolic for the fans and add more goodwill, probably it would from a fan point of view."

Should they better Villa's result this weekend, with Blues at Stoke and Villa hosting Swansea, then Garry Monk's men would go ahead of Dean Smith's side.

Birmingham head to the Bet365 Stadium having lost just two of their 12 league games this season.

The Verdict

With just over a month until the derby, there's no doubt that fans and players will be looking ahead to the fixture with excitement.

And, whilst it's not going to matter on the day, it would be great for the Blues fans if they went into the game ahead of their rivals.

For now though, the focus will be on Stoke and maintaining the good recent form that they've shown.
