Birmingham City boss Aitor Karanka has admitted that he's not sure whether Alen Halilovic will be able to make his debut against Millwall this weekend.

Blues completed the signing of the attacking midfielder earlier this week. And, his arrival generated a lot of excitement among the support, which is understandable when you consider Halilovic has played for Barcelona and AC Milan in his short career.

With the team lacking inspiration in the final third, many fans hope he is the creative force the side is lacking, and there will be calls for him to play straight away providing he's fit enough.

However, speaking to Birmingham Live, Karanka revealed that whilst the signing is complete, he doesn't know if the player has been properly registered with the league yet, which could delay his debut.

"He is training but I think we are waiting for the clearance yet. I don't know if we will have it before Saturday, I am just the coach and the club is working on that.

"I don't think there is a problem, the club has always done the best, if he is not here it is because it is impossible and it will be for the following game."

The verdict

This was a very intriguing signing for Blues, and there will be a lot of excitement surrounding the player when he starts.

Providing he's fit, Karanka needs that to be as soon as possible, so he must be desperate for this to go through ahead of the Millwall game.

Even as a sub, Halilovic should offer that unpredictability and bit of magic that the team are seriously lacking right now. Ultimately, it's out of his hands and it's a waiting game for the club to see if he is registered.
