Barnsley defender Liam Lindsay is being eyed up by former Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino for a potential move to Italy.

Cellino was a big fan of Lindsay during his time in England with the Elland Road club, and he is now chairman of Italian side Brescia.

According to Alan Nixon and confirmed by Barnsley fans in reply, Lindsay is being eyed by Cellino once again in what would be a shock move for all concerned.

Lindsay has played a key role in helping the Reds win back a place in the Championship with some fine performances under Daniel Stendl, and he is thought to be a wanted man this summer with clubs seeing plenty of potential in the 23-year-old Scot.

The defender moved to Oakwell from Scottish side Partick Thistle and has gone from strength to strength in South Yorkshire, putting in some fine displays as the Tykes remained unbeaten at home and found themselves back in the second tier.

Any move to Italy would cost Cellino and Brescia a fair fee though, with Barnsley no doubt keen to bring in a decent fee for one of their top young players.

The Verdict

This would be a bizarre move to say the least, and it's hard to see Lindsay fancying a move to Brescia in all honesty.

Cellino is hardly the most enticing of owners to work for, and if Lindsay does go, it will surely only be because Brescia have stumped up a massive sum of money.
