Barnsley head coach Valerian Ismael believes that the club are still in 'a strong position' to secure promotion. The Tykes have been in wonderful form of late but fell to a 2-0 defeat against Coventry City to give them a wake-up call in their pursuit of a place in the Premier League. As a result of dropping points the Yorkshire side now find themselves in sixth position in the table and looking over their shoulders at the chasing pack. With just four points separating them from seventh place Reading, Ismael believes that there's still plenty of work to do if they're to secure a play-off spot. As quoted by the Sheffield Star, Ismael said: "We have put in a big effort so far and we move quickly on to the next game now. We need to bounce back.

“We are still in a strong position. We have had 42 games so far and we have performed incredibly.

“We are proud of the guys so we have just told them, ‘forget that game now, move on in your head’. We have four games left and we have to be ready.”

The verdict

Losing to Coventry City was a real setback for Barnsley.

The Tykes have been in great form of late and that's why it's no surprise to see them firmly in contention for the play-offs.

A spot in the top six is still in their hands and Valerian Ismael will be determined to see the job through to see them in the mix for a spot in the Premier League next term.
