Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Barnsley defender Liam Lindsay and he's certainly a man in demand.

Birmingham Live reveal how the Mirror have reported that Lindsay is also wanted by Celtic and Leeds United, so it's sure to be a transfer rumour to keep an eye on as the transfer window edges closer.

There's no doubting that Lindsay would be a good signing for Dean Smith's side in the summer but his arrival could leave a Villa defender sweating over his future.

James Chester has been a regular in the Aston Villa side in recent years and has been a rare bright spark in a disappointing couple of seasons for the Villans.

The Welshman is one of the best defensive options Dean Smith has at the club, but he could be fearing for his future if Lindsay was to arrive at Villa Park.

Smith has been reliant on other options this season in the centre of the Villa defence, with Chester being ruled out of action recently.

Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause have formed an impressive partnership in Chester's absence and the Villa boss could be tempted to try and sign the pair on a permanent basis.

With Lindsay also potentially arriving, the Villa skipper is certainly going to have a battle to play, and with good reason.

Lindsay has been one of Barnsley's star men this season and will be key to their promotion bid, whilst at 23-years-old he is a long-term option.

So, with the transfer window edging ever-closer, it's going to be an interesting few months at Villa Park and Chester could be a high-profile casualty.
