Aston Villa face Bolton this weekend knowing they need to win to make up for their surprising loss in the week.

Steve Bruce’s men went down 3-1 at home to QPR just days after comprehensively beating leaders Wolves.

The defeat to the Londoners, combined with victories for the two sides above them, has left Villa now seven points behind Cardiff in the chase for automatic promotion.

However, owner Tony Xia was quick to send out a positive message to his players on twitter, telling them to keep their ‘heads up’ as well as wishing them well for the ‘last 9 finals’.

It’s worth noting that even after Tuesday’s setback, Villa have won ten of their last 13 games so are still one of the form sides in the league.

Additionally, Villa know that they have to face Cardiff later in the season, with the Welsh side coming to the West Midlands on April 10. Bruce will know that if Villa can reduce the gap by the time that fixture takes place it could have a massive say on who gets a top two spot.

The Verdict

Tony Xia was probably livid after the game, like everyone connected with the club, as the QPR result undid all the good work from beating Wolves.

However, he has to remain positive as with Cardiff’s fixtures there’s still a strong chance of reducing the deficit before the game at Villa Park.

So, whilst that’s the case Villa have to fight and the fans will appreciate the owner sending out such a message.
