Mikel Arteta has hailed the improvements made by Eddie Nketiah during his time at Leeds United.

The 20-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Elland Road where he scored five goals in 19 appearances for the Whites.

Nketiah struggled to break into the starting XI and often played second fiddle to Patrick Bamford for Marcelo Bielsa's side, which led to Arsenal's decision to recall him to the Emirates Stadium.

Since then the striker has been reintegrated into the Arsenal first team squad and featured against Sheffield United in the Premier League at the weekend.

Nketiah made quite an impact and Mikel Arteta said that he was very pleased with how much the frontman has improved since the summer.

Speaking to the press, as quoted by Football London, Arteta said: "I was very impressed with him.

"Everything I've seen in training I really liked and I think he's grown a lot in terms of his loan and the environment is was working in.

"That's what the plan was. He was he was ready to make an impact we needed that energy.

"I think the team was starting to feel a bit lacking that and I made a decision to play him."

The verdict

It's no surprise to see Eddie Nketiah doing well.

While he didn't start a huge amount of games at Elland Road, the striker will have learned a huge amount from playing for a club like Leeds United - not to mention featuring for a manager such as Marcelo Bielsa.

Whether he can establish himself as a first team regular under Mikel Arteta remains to be seen, but there's no doubting that he has the potential to be a top player.
