It promises to be an interesting summer for Stoke City's Kevin Wimmer, who will be doing all he can to impress for Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron between now and the end of the season.

The centre-half - a £18m arrival from Spurs  in 2017 - was sent out on loan to Hannover 96 following Stoke's relegation from the top-flight last term, and has since plied his trade over in Belgium for Mouscron.

There has been speculation linking Wimmer with a move away from the bet365 Stadium in the summer, with another two years left on his contract in Staffordshire.

Since our last update on the defender, Wimmer has made a further four appearances for Mouscron, making 16 appearances in all competitions this term.

The 27-year-old has helped his side keep only one clean sheet this season, which came in a 2-0 win over Kortijk way back on the opening day of the campaign.

There are only two games left to play in the Belgian Pro League season, and whilst relegation isn't a possibility for Mouscron, qualifying for the Europa League will be a big priority for the club.

It seems almost inevitable that Wimmer will leave Stoke in the summer, so he will be trying his best to impress Mouscron in a bid to win a permanent contract.

Failing that, Wimmer will be looking to attract interest from elsewhere by producing a string of positive performances between now and the end of the campaign, after what has been a dismal spell in Staffordshire.

He's likely to be a high-earner, too, therefore making it beneficial for Stoke to get rid in the summer as Michael O'Neill looks to reshape his squad, potentially in preparation for life in League One.
