EFL on Quest pundit Kevin Phillips has suggested that signing Hull City wide man Jarrod Bowen in January could be the difference between Leeds United getting promoted or not.

The 22-year-old has been in phenomenal form this season–scoring 10 goals and providing two assists in 16 appearances.

Bowen played a key role in Hull's 3-0 victory against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday, adding the Tigers' second goal of the game before seeing his shot deflect into the path of Tom Eaves for the third.

Speaking on EFL on Quest, Phillips, who was promoted from the second tier of English football five times as a player, heaped praise on Bowen.

He said: "He's a quality player and there's a lot of talk about him moving on. His movement is very good and his technical ability. He’s a player who is going places.

"Dare I say it put him in the Leeds team in January and he might be the difference between them getting promoted or not.”

The Whites may face some hot competition for the 22-year-old as it was reported in September that Premier League sides Southampton and Newcastle United are keeping tabs on the Hull player ahead of the January transfer window.

Leeds are second in the Championship after their 2-0 win against QPR on Saturday.

Tyler Roberts played a starring role in his first league start of the season–scoring the opening goal of the game and causing issues for the opponent's backline throughout.

The Verdict

Bowen has been sensational for Hull this season and is the third-highest goalscorer in the league this season, behind Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic and Brentford's Ollie Watkins.

He would certainly be a fantastic addition to Marcelo Bielsa's squad but I'm not sure if signing the 22-year-old is realistic for the Whites, especially with top-flight teams interested.

The Daily Express has suggested he is rated at £20 million, which would surely out price Leeds in January.
