It's safe to say that Kiko Casilla hasn't quite made the impact that he and the Elland Road faithful would have originally hoped for at Leeds United.

The goalkeeper arrived in Yorkshire from Spanish giants Real Madrid in January 2019, and has gone on to establish himself as Marcelo Bielsa's first choice shot-stopper.

Casilla has made 37 appearances in the 2019/20 campaign though, but has made some costly errors in his time with Leeds to date.

There has also been off-the-field issues with the goalkeeper, with Casilla now serving an eight-game suspension for using racist language towards an opponent earlier this term.

It has previously been revealed by Football Insider that Casilla was thinking of leaving the club in the summer ahead of a potential return to Spain.

Former Sunderland and West Brom striker Kevin Phillips issued his thoughts on Casilla's future at Elland Road, and stated that he wouldn't be surprised to see Bielsa retain his faith in the Spaniard next season, despite his rumoured exit.

"Marcelo Bielsa likes his goalkeeper to be comfortable with the ball at his feet and be able to drill passes left foot, right foot. It would not surprise me if he stuck with Casilla for that reason. He is good on the ball.

"But, if I am a supporter I would like to see someone else between the sticks."

Leeds United are well on course to win promotion into the Premier League this season, with Marcelo Bielsa's side currently sat top of the Championship table with nine matches to play in this year's campaign.

However, that push for a long-awaited return to the top-flight has been put on hold, with off-the-field events calling a halt to fixtures across the country.

The Verdict:

I think that he'll be heading for the exit door in the summer transfer window.

Casilla has made some costly errors in his time with Leeds United, and I can see Illan Meslier replacing him as Marcelo Bielsa's first choice goalkeeper in the near future.

He hasn't played consistently to a high standard, and I think Bielsa wil be tempted to look for a more experienced goalkeeper in the premier League next season.

It's going to be an interest summer transfer window ahead for Leeds United, especially if they're playing their football in the top-flight next term.
