The race for promotion into the Premier League is set to be a fiercely-competitive battle in the Championship heading into the final nine matches of the season.
Leeds United and West Brom currently occupy the top-two spots in the second tier standings, with Fulham being six points adrift of Slaven Bilic’s side in third.
Therefore, the Baggies supporters could be forgiven for having one eye on potential life back in the Premier League next season, as they turn their attention to the summer transfer window.
Speaking in an interview with West Brom News, former Baggies forward Kevin Phillips issued high-praise for Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, and labelled him as a top-class player.
“Mitrovic is a top-class player but if things go well for Fulham, they might join West Brom in promotion via the play-offs – they’re sitting quite healthy at the moment.
“For me, he’s the most outstanding centre-forward in the Championship, he’s got Premier League experience and he’s developed into a player whose attitude has got better and better.”
Phillips went on to state that Mitrovic is the sort of player that his former side should be targeting in the summer transfer window, providing that Scott Parker’s side don’t win promotion into the Premier League themselves.
“He suits the Championship but also the Premier League with his physicality. His hold-up play is also very good and he scores goals.
“I would imagine he’d cost a few quid but if West Brom were to go up, there would be money there to spend. He’s someone who they’d definitely be interested in or be looking at.”

This is definitely a fair shout.
Mitrovic has been brilliant this season for Fulham, and I certainly feel as though he is capable of playing in the Premier League once again in the near future.
You would imagine that he’ll leave the Cottagers if they don’t win promotion, and Scott Parker will know that he’s fighting a losing battle to keep him at the club if they aren’t promoted into the top-flight.
West Brom definitely need to add strength in depth to their attacking options if they’re promoted, and Mitrovic is a player that will be eager to prove himself in the Premier League once again.
