Kevin Nolan is interested in taking over as manager at Bolton Wanderers following the successful takeover by Football Ventures, according to the BBC.

The consortium completed their purchase of Bolton on Wednesday following a turbulent period in the League One club's history and they are reportedly keen to make an appointment imminently, according to the Bolton News.

It is thought they want to appoint a new manager by the end of next week and the urgency of the decision means they are only keen on interviewing managers who are currently unemployed.

Nolan has been out of managerial work since he was sacked by Notts County in August 2018 following their dismal start to the season, but the former Trotters captain is reportedly interested in a return to the club as manager.

Following this report, BT Sport presenter Darren Fletcher took the opportunity to joke with Nolan on his Instagram story about who might land the job.

Fletcher asked Nolan a series of questions before asking "Who gets the Bolton job?" to which the former midfielder laughed and refused to answer.

Nolan made 345 appearances and scored 50 goals for Bolton after rising through the club's academy ranks.

The verdict

This could be a great appointment for Bolton, as Nolan is someone who knows the club very well and would immediately earn the support of the fan base.

If reports are to be believed, he is also very much interested in securing a return to the Trotters and this video suggests he is playing his cards close to his chest.

As someone looking to carve a managerial path for himself, it is no surprise that this role would appeal to Nolan as I'm sure he will be desperate to return success to his former side.

It will be a very difficult task to keep Bolton in League One this season following their 12-point deduction before the season started,  but the appointment of Nolan could give the Trotters every chance of survival.
