Kenny Jackett has stated that Portsmouth need two points a game if they’re to be promoted to the Championship this season.
Pompey are currently in brilliant form and have won their last eight matches in all competitions, a run which has seen them fly into the play-off places.
The top six isn’t the only way of going up for Jackett’s side, as they sit just three points behind second-placed Wycombe Wanderers whilst also having two games in hand on the Chairboys.
There are a lot of teams in the race for the automatic promotion places and just nine points separate the side in second with the one in 11th.
Jackett has expressed that his Portsmouth side will need around two points per game and that he doesn’t feel the total will be higher than it was last season.
Speaking to Portsmouth News, Jackett said: “You do almost need two points a game. Out of those (in contention) there will be enough who do.
“It doesn’t seem it (will be as high as last season).
“The big teams do put the runs in at the end, the sides who do it will.”

It’s set to be a really interesting run-in this season as a number of teams all push for promotion out of League One.
The league is currently so close and it’s impossible to call who is going to get promoted. Portsmouth are in the best form out of the sides and they look as though they have the best chance of closing the gap.
In the games against teams around them, they have been very impressive and most recently beat Sunderland at Fratton Park.
If they’re going to get promoted the most important thing to keep in the side is consistency. If they do that then there’s no reason why they can’t finish in the top two of the division.
