Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett has stated that is very unlikely that Ben Thompson will be returning to the club.

The midfielder enjoyed a successful loan spell at Pompey in the 2018-19 season, but it appears as though he won't get a chance of returning to the south coast.

Thompson was named as a substitute in Gary Rowett's most recent Championship game, and this is an indication that the player is seemingly in the Millwall plans for the rest of the season.

Portsmouth earned a 2-1 victory over MK Dons yesterday despite having just over 20% possession in the second-half.

Jackett is now looking to build on the win, but he's admitted it's looking likely that it will be without Thompson despite the player being on the club's radar.

Speaking to the Portsmouth News, Jackett said: "It doesn’t look likely in terms of getting Ben back. People have been asking me that for two years.

"I haven’t spoken to him personally. It looks like he’s in their plans, so I don’t think that’s one that will happen."

The Verdict

It would have been a great move for Pompey but it looks as though it's one that is seemingly going to fail to materialise in this current transfer window.

Thompson has a lot of ability and if Millwall use him correctly then the Lions themselves will have a good player that on his day is certainly capable of producing football ready for the Championship.

It will be interesting to see if Portsmouth can get anyone else over the line in the coming week especially if they're looking to mount another promotion push going into a big run of games.
