Kenny Jackett has stated that if Brandon Haunstrup can recover from his injury then there's no reason Portsmouth would not want to keep him.

The left-back is currently on the sidelines having torn the meniscus in his right knee, and Jackett is hoping that he can come back to the side the same player he was.

Haunstrup has made 17 appearances for Pompey this season, which is a great amount considering we're not even half-way through the campaign.

For a 23-year-old, he's showing a lot of potential to go on and become a regular in the side for years to come, and Jackett has expressed that he must make sure he can prove his fitness before offering a contract.

Speaking to Portsmouth News, Jackett said: "Brandon is a good young player and has to make sure when he comes back he is 100 per cent.

"There’s enough of the season left for him to prove his fitness and, at 23 with the talent he has, why shouldn’t we want to keep him?

"But you very rarely give a contract if they are injured, that’s one of the golden rules. Although nothing is set in stone, you don’t do that."

The Verdict

He's been a good solid player for Portsmouth so far this season, and you saw what happened to the defence without him on Saturday when Pompey crumbled at Accrington Stanley.

He's a good player but it's good of Jackett not to be over the top and give too much away. That ensures that he will continue to perform, and try his hardest to make sure he gets offered a contract.

Portsmouth are a good side in attacking positions, but they must make sure that their defensive display is up to scratch.
