Portsmouth suffered defeat to Charlton Athletic on Saturday as the away side ran out comfortable winners in the end at Fratton Park.

One key incident from the fixture was a challenge from Charlton's Darren Pratley on Portsmouth's Callum Johnson.

The midfielder went in on the Pompey player with his studs up but referee Carl Boyeson chose to just talk to Pratley and not award a card for the challenge.

Jackett has expressed that he knows Pratley and states that he's not the type of player to make a challenge like that in a malicious manner, and the Pompey boss admits that sometimes you get these decisions, and sometimes you don't.

Speaking to Portsmouth News, Jackett said: "Some of them you get and some of them you don’t.

"I know Darren and he’s not particularly a malicious player, whether it was mistimed I don’t know.
"It’s up to other people whether they want to make those judgements."

The Verdict

It was a poor challenge from Pratley and one that as a player, you won't have meant to do in a malicious manner and he should have been awarded at the very least a yellow card.

Now, Pompey have to bounce back from this defeat and make sure it doesn't happen again when they take on Lincoln City, a side who have performed very impressively in the early parts of the season.

It was a bad challenge, and it is good to see that Jackett isn't making any excuses and said he'll leave it for the officials, it shows he's risen above it and will now hope his side can move on the next time they take to the field.
