Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett has issued his latest squad update ahead of their big game in League One this Saturday against Sunderland.

After a successful midweek trip to Lincoln City on Tuesday night which saw Pompey bring the three points back to Hampshire, the south coast side are back at Fratton Park against their promotion rivals.

Sunderland are one point and two positions ahead of Pompey in the table, and Saturday's game is likely to be a eagerly anticipated affair.

Pompey boss Kenny Jackett spoke to the club's official website on Thursday afternoon to discuss the latest squad news ahead of the big game.

QUIZ: Can you name these 11 Portsmouth flops?

Portsmouth have no new injury issues to worry about ahead of Saturday's clash, with Kenny Jackett having almost a full squad to choose from for one of the first times this season.

“We’ll be selecting from the same squad we had for Lincoln and that’s positive for us. We’ve got good competition for places at the moment," the Portsmouth boss said.

He added that there no concerns have come from Tuesday's game against Lincoln.

The only long-term absentee for Portsmouth is Bryn Morris. Kenny Jackett added that the 23-year-old is working hard behind the scenes to get back to action as soon as possible.

“Bryn Morris is still out, but he’s someone with an incredibly high work-rate, who’s trying to get to a level where he can deal with the rigours of professional football.”

The Verdict

It is positive news for Portsmouth that Kenny Jackett has almost a clean bill of health ahead of one of their most important and anticipated games of the season this Saturday against Sunderland.

Lee Brown successfully made his return to the bench against Lincoln City after a period of time out with an Achilles injury, and Ross McCrorie is also back fit. Both could feature on Saturday.

With both clubs in the play-off picture at present, a negative result for Pompey could have knock-on effects on their league position. The Blues will take comfort in the fact that they are still unbeaten in the league this season at Fratton Park.
