Kenny Jackett has stated that he sees versatile Portsmouth player Brandon Haunstrup as a left-back.

The Pompey player has played in a number of positions for the club over the season, and has often filled in at right-back due to various injuries and suspensions.

Haunstrup returned from a knee injury on Saturday during the victory over AFC Wimbledon. He came on as a substitute and played at right-back in the time that he was on the pitch.

Jackett has expressed that he still sees him as a left-back, even though he has used him as the other full-back on a number of occasions throughout the current campaign.

Speaking to The Portsmouth News, Jackett said: "I think Brandon is a left sider, I think he is a left-back

"We put him right-back at that particular time when McCrorie got injured against Southend. I didn’t have a recognised right-back on the bench, with quite a lot of attacking options instead.

"But I see him as a left-back."

The Verdict

Haunstrup is one of those versatile players who rarely has a bad game and they are so important for a squad like Portsmouth that is aiming to get promoted to the Championship.

He's very good at running with the ball and enjoys the attacking side of the game, and it's interesting that Jackett still sees him as a left-back despite using him on the other side for the majority of the time.

It's a big boost for the club to have him back for what is going to be a crucial part of the season where they'll need to keep getting some good results in order to achieve their ambition of promotion to the Championship in this campaign.
