Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett has stated that he knows who he will start in goal for the next League One game against Wimbledon.

This comes after a recent battle has broken out at the club for the number one place in the squad. Both goalkeepers, Craig MacGillivray and Alex Bass have had their fair share of action, but Saturday's League One fixture could say a lot about who will be in net for the rest of the campaign.

Bass had been the reserve keeper up until New Years Day when he took over from MacGillivray and had good games against Gillingham, and then Fleetwood in the FA Cup. MacGillivray came back in for the match against Walsall, where he saved a penalty.

Jackett has expressed that he's decided who will play on the weekend, and is delighted that the pair are pushing each other for success.

Speaking to Portsmouth News, Jackett said: "Craig made a vital penalty save which in the end got us the win at Walsall.

"They are both good keepers, that’s the situation, and I am delighted with both of them, they are pushing each other and are neck-and-neck.

"I do know who will play (against AFC Wimbledon), but most important is always the group because the team is going to change."

The Verdict

It's actually a really good situation to have as a manager as you have two players who are desperate to start in a certain position meaning they both continuously try to play at their best.

The keeper situation is always important at clubs and if you have a good keeper you tend to be getting good results more frequently.

It's a big decision for Jackett though, as someone is going to be disappointed on Saturday and he'll hope that whoever is on the bench can bounce back and play better in training.
