Kenny Jackett has said he will pick the best side available to him, as Portsmouth take on Fleetwood in the FA Cup third round tomorrow afternoon at Highbury Stadium.

The 2008 winners of the competition will be hoping to replicate last season's efforts once again and reach the fourth round.

With this game being Pompey's fourth in the space of nine days, the squad will be suffering from fatigue. However, the Portsmouth boss has said he will be field the strongest lineup available to him regardless.

Speaking to the club website, Jackett said: “We’ve had a lot of games in a short space of time, so there is the need for some fresh energy, but we’re going there to progress in the competition."

QUIZ: How much do you remember from the 2016/17 Portsmouth season?

Fleetwood are having a good season in League One, and sit one point and two positions above Portsmouth in the table. Pompey have struggled away from home in recent months, and Jackett knows it will be a difficult test.

“We have to be prepared to face a good Fleetwood side and by the time Saturday comes around, we will be."

There are no fresh injury concerns for Portsmouth to contend with after their draw against Gillingham on New Year's Day.

However, Ross McCrorie remains a doubt with a hamstring problem. Brandon Haunstrup, Lee Bolton, Jack Whatmough and Bryn Morris are definitely unavailable.

Pompey have faced off against Fleetwood just six times in their history, and have won the last four meetings against the side from the Fylde coast.

The Verdict

As the upcoming FA Cup tie is against fellow League One opposition, Portsmouth cannot afford to make wholesale changes for the game and risk not making it to the fourth round.

It is clear Kenny Jackett values the importance of the FA Cup, and his comments will be good news for the fans, as Pompey look to get their first away win in four attempts.
