Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett has revealed that forward Ronan Curtis has returned to training today, ahead of the EFL Trophy final against Sunderland at Wembley this weekend.

The Pompey boss was speaking to the media at the club's training ground earlier today ahead of the final with the Black Cats.

Jackett revealed that he will assess whether Curtis, who suffered a freak finger injury earlier this month, is fit enough to start the match over the rest of this week.

Curtis has missed the last three matches for Pompey and had to withdraw from the Republic of Ireland squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Georgia.

The forward has scored 11 goals and contributed 12 assists for Portsmouth in 34 league appearances this season, playing a big role in Pompey's promotion push.

The Verdict:

Curtis has been an important player for Portsmouth this season and could have a big role to play at Wembley on Sunday.

The fact he has returned to training suggests that he is making good progress towards a recovery and this news is sure to please Pompey fans.

If he is passed fit, a Wembley appearance in his first season in English football would be a great achievement for the player.
