Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett has given his thoughts on Marcuss Harness and the possibility of switching the winger's role within the squad.

Signed predominantly as a replacement for Jamal Lowe, Harness has struggled to nail down a permanent starting spot in a wide role, leading to some calling for him to be given a go in the number 10 role.

And it is something that Jackett can see happening more.

"If he hadn't been injured I think it would have developed that way," he told his pre-match press conference on Thursday morning, reported by Andrew Moon of the BBC.

"Marcus can play any of the three positions behind the striker and he can do them all well."

QUIZ: Do you know where these 15 ex-Portsmouth players are playing now?

Harness made the move to Fratton Park from Burton Albion during the summer and has gone on to score three times in 14 League One appearances so far this season.

However, he has not started in any of the club's last six matches, coming on for no longer than 17 minutes four of them and warming the bench for the entire 90 in two.

In recent games, it has been John Marquis and Gareth Evans competing for the spot behind the chosen striker, with Ronan Curtis and Ryan Williams seeming to have nailed down the wide positions.

The verdict

I think it is definitely something that Jackett should be considering.

Harness is the sort of player that fans love. Unpredictable, exciting, pacey and capable of the extraordinary.

I can see why he has not been playing at the same time, however. Curtis and Williams have been steady and reliable on either wing and do not particular deserve to be dropped.
