Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett has admitted he's braced for the departure of keeper Luke McGhee this summer, as reported by Portsmouth.co.uk.

The former Spurs stopper was their number one during the 2017/18 season, making 50 appearances in total, but he found himself restricted to appearing in cup competitions following the arrival of  Craig MacGillivray last summer.

That's prompting him to look elsewhere for first team football, with Jackett resigned to the fact he's going to lose his number two.

"For Luke, he is frustrated, he has been all year," Jacket said after talk of a possible link with a Peterborough United switch.

"Craig has come in and it has been tough for Luke to dislodge him. We will see now, but I think Luke would want to move onto first-team football. We will see if anybody comes in, he won’t want to be waiting to be second or third behind Craig."

"We will see if there are any approaches, we will see what is out there and what clubs come in for him."

McGhee has slipped to third in the pecking order following the emergence of Alex Bass and the 23-year-old will almost certainly want to kickstart his career with a move.

He spent a full season on loan at London Road in 2016/17, playing 39 matches for Posh under their current manager, Darren Ferguson.

The Verdict

The Peterborough move would certainly seem to have legs now. It's mentioned in the report, he's known to their manager Darren Ferguson and even Kenny Jackett has admitted that there's a chance he could leave the club.

He's got a couple of full seasons of football under his belt at just 23-years-old and that will surely stand him in good stead for the future, wherever he ends up.

There's certainly League One quality in the stopper and he'll be keen to stay in the third tier to prove his point.
