Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett has confirmed that his squad is nearly at full strength, with just Damien McCrory and Jack Whatmough still sidelined by injury.

The news, released in a Tweet via the club’s official page, will come as a relief to all of those associated with the club, who will hope that a clean-bill of health will allow the south coast side to begin to close in on a place in the top-six.

Portsmouth have lost three on the bounce in the league, and a disappointing FA Cup first round exit to Luton Town has heaped further misery on the squad at Fratton Park.

With almost a full squad to choose from however, Jackett will know that his side are certainly strong enough to compete at this level, and will turn his attentions to the upper reaches of the table when Pompey return to league action at the weekend.

The Verdict

Portsmouth have been solid enough since their return to the third tier this season, and fans will be delighted to be sitting just five points off the play offs at this early stage of the season.

Pompey are a big club with a big, expectant fan base, and there is a feeling on the south coast that the good times are set to return to the club following a dismal few years.

With the majority of his players fit and available to play, Jackett will feel quietly confident that his side are dark horses for promotion this semester.
