Kenny Jackett has vowed there will be no hangover from their home defeat against Peterborough this weekend, as they look to end their season on a high.

The 46-game campaign comes to an end this weekend with one-time leaders Pompey set to finish in the play-offs. That means three more games in May and a prolonged battle for promotion to the Championship.

They were beaten 3-2 at home last night by Darren Ferguson's Posh, a brace from Ivan Toney and Lee Tomlin's opener cancelling out Christian Burgess and Ben Close's efforts.

Despite the demoralising result, Jackett vowed there will be no problem lifting the players for the visit of Accrington Stanley.

"We were disappointed last night because we lost, but that won’t last long – by Thursday morning our resilience and determination will come through," he told Portsmouth.co.uk.

"There won’t be any disappointment or hangover for the rest of the week. We will lift ourselves, it won’t be a problem.

"When I spoke to them afterwards I told them you can be disappointed Tuesday night, be disappointed Wednesday – but on Thursday morning you have to get over it."

Portsmouth look likely to face either Doncaster or Peterborough in the semi-finals, with Sunderland or Charlton likely to by laying in wait if they progress to the final.

The Verdict

With both Sunderland and Portsmouth having looked likely to be first and second at Christmas, it's been a disappointing 2019 for both.

Pompey do have the Wembley win under their belts and take a psychological advantage into the play-offs over Sunderland, but how damaging could last night's loss be if Peterborough are their opponents in the semi-final?
