Kemar Roofe has teased that he could one day return to Leeds United, stating it was incredibly hard for him to leave Elland Road back in the summer.

Leeds signed Roofe from Oxford United back in 2016, with Elland Road the striker’s home up until the summer of 2019.

In total, Roofe scored 32 goals in 122 appearances for the Whites, finishing the 2017/18 and 2018/19 campaign as the club’s top goalscorer.

Last season, he bagged 15 goals to fire Leeds into promotion contention, but on the back of that failed push for the Premier League and with his contract running down, Roofe moved to Anderlecht in the summer.

Despite appearing to enjoy life in Belgium, Roofe refused to rule out one day returning to Elland Road, stating to FourFourTwo in a recent interview: “If the opportunity was right, I’d never say no.

“It was massively hard to leave. I was settled and all the fans were incredible, but my contract was up and it’s part of football.”

QUIZ: Leeds United through the decade – How much do you remember about the 2018/19 season?

Roofe has struck six goals in 13 appearances since linking up with Anderlecht, with injury hampering his first season in European football.

Back at Leeds, Marcelo Bielsa’s side have launched another assault on Premier League football without Roofe.

They sit top of the Championship table with nine games remaining.

The Verdict

Roofe clearly has an emotional connection with Leeds and it appears like it was an incredibly hard decision for him to leave the club.

The fact he’s open to a return one day tells you how highly he holds the club, who, if the deal was right, might be open to reuniting in the future.

For now, though, their focus will be on Patrick Bamford, Tyler Roberts and Jean-Kevin Augustin having the ammunition to fire the club into the Premier League.
