Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe has sent a message to the club's supporters after the defeat to Manchester United in Perth yesterday.

The Whites were comfortably beaten by their arch rivals in the opening game of their pre-season tour of Australia, as Manchester United ran out 4-0 winners with goals from Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Phil Jones and Anthony Martial.

Roofe played the entire game for Leeds and came close to scoring, but his first-half header well saved by Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Following the game, the forward has sent a message to Leeds fans, thanking them for their support and admitted that even though it was a disappointing result, the work ahead of the new season is the most important thing.

"Thanks everyone that's come to Perth and watched us for the Manchester United game. Obviously a disappointing result but it was more about the work. Can't wait to see you all in Sydney. See you there," Roofe said.

Leeds will continue their tour of Australia with another friendly match against Western Sydney Wanderers at the weekend, before the 16-man squad will fly back to the UK to continue their preparations for the new season.

Roofe was a key player for Leeds last season and finished the campaign as the Whites' top scorer with 15 goals, despite facing months on the sidelines through injury.

The Verdict

Roofe has been an important player for Leeds over the past few seasons and is a fans' favourite at Elland Road. The striker will have know the importance of that game to the fans and I'm sure he will be disappointed that they team couldn't get a better result.

It's always a big game when Leeds play Manchester United, but it's important to remember that this way only a pre-season friendly.

The result doesn't matter too much, the players putting the work in ahead of the new season is the most important thing and there were definitely some positives for Marcelo Bielsa to take away from that performance.

Roofe was Leeds' top scorer last season and will be hoping to score the goals to fire the Whites to promotion this season.
