Kemar Roofe has revealed the favourite moment of his career was netting the winner for Leeds United in last season’s thrilling 3-2 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Leeds were up against it early on against Dean Smith’s side, with Tammy Abraham and Conor Hourihane firing Villa into an early two-goal lead.

However, Marcelo Bielsa introduced Jack Clarke at half-time and Leeds put in a blistering second-half display to stun Villa.

Clarke pulled a goal back shortly after coming on, with Pontus Jansson on hand to level things up with a bullet header. Then, on 95 minutes and with the final kick of the game, Roofe capitalised on some poor defending to fire Leeds to the top of the table on the back of a 3-2 win.

Taking to Instagram in a Q&A, Roofe revealed that goal at Villa Park was his favourite in his career so far:

That goal against Villa was one of 15 strikes Roofe notched last season, with the 27-year-old finishing the campaign as Leeds’ top goalscorer.

However, despite giving Leeds the lead in the play-off semi-final first-leg against Derby County, Marcelo Bielsa’s side crashed out of the promotion race in the second-leg, suffering a 4-3 aggregate defeat.

Villa beat Derby in the play-off final.

The Verdict

There were some memorable results and goals last season for Leeds United, with Roofe’s winner at Villa Park right up there.

The Whites were buried at 2-0, but Clarke inspired a second-half fightback and Roofe was the cool head at the right time on 95 minutes.

It’s a shame Leeds couldn’t finish the job and win promotion, as moments like this, as memorable as they were, do actually count for little now.
