West Brom might view Kemar Roofe as someone who slipped through the net, but the striker still clearly has some fond memories from his brief time at the Hawthorns.

Roofe made a name for himself at Oxford United and Leeds United, but his career in England began with the Baggies, who brought him through into senior football.

The striker never made a senior appearance for the club, but he’s revealed that one of his former West Brom teammates was the best player he’s played with: Nicolas Anelka.

Taking to Instagram in a Q&A session, Roofe revealed his pick:

Anelka has a resume to rival most strikers in Europe, with the Frenchman playing for the likes of PSG, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea. However, late in his career, he headed to the Hawthorns.

In only 12 appearances for the Baggies, Anelka scored twice, with Roofe watching on from a lower level at the club as the Frenchman was sacked for gross misconduct.

Currently, Roofe is with Anderlecht and looking to build his career in Belgium after turning his back on Leeds United.

In the previous two seasons, Roofe top scored at Elland Road, with his 15 goals last season helping Marcelo Bielsa’s side to the play-offs.

Quiz: Can you remember which West Brom manager signed each of these 15 players?

The Verdict

They might’ve never played together in a competitive fixture, but you can tell just how much it meant to Roofe rubbing shoulders with a great European striker like Anelka.

The Frenchman was electric on his day and he had a bigger impact on English football that many give him credit for.

Roofe’s spell with West Brom is unforgettable to many, but, for him, he will have memories to last a lifetime.
