Leeds United saw off Salford City in the first round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening with a comfortable 3-0 win over the League Two side.

Goals from Mateusz Klich, Eddie Nketiah and Gaetano Berardi proved to be enough for Marcelo Bielsa's men, and they'll be keen to build on this impressive showing.

It was a rare goal for Berardi, who is a firm Leeds fan favourite, so it will have been pleasing for the Elland Road faithful to see him get on the scoresheet.

Former Leeds United striker, Kemar Roofe took to Instagram to react to Berardi's goal on the night, in a post that is certain to go down well with Leeds supporters.

Roofe left Leeds earlier in the transfer window, as he moved to Belgian side, Anderlecht after opting not to see out his contract at Elland Road which was set to expire in the summer of 2020.

Leeds are next in action when they return to league action to take on Wigan Athletic, in what could be a potentially tricky away trip for Marcelo Bielsa's side at the weekend.

It remains to be seen as to whether Berardi will retain his starting spot, but he's certainly given Marcelo Bielsa a welcome selection dilemma heading into the game against the Latics.

The Verdict:

This could be an important season for Berardi.

It's unlikely that he'll be a regular in Marcelo Bielsa's starting XI in their league campaign, with Ben White and Liam Cooper already forming a strong partnership in the centre of defence.

So it's important that he takes any opportunity that comes his way, and he's made a strong claim for a starting spot in the near future after this impressive showing against Salford City.
