Kemar Roofe has backed Leeds United for a Premier League return, insisting that ‘it’s where the club belongs’.

Leeds haven’t featured at the top table of English football since the 2003/04 season, but Marcelo Bielsa has them on the cusp of a return.

Bielsa’s side sit top of the Championship table with nine games remaining, and if the season can conclude, there’s an expectancy that Leeds will win promotion in the ‘right way’.

Taking to Instagram, Roofe, now of Anderlecht, backed Leeds for a place in the Premier League when he was quizzed on whether they deserved promotion:

Roofe was part of the Leeds squad looking to crack the code in the Championship between 2016 and 2019, before he cut ties with the Yorkshire club and moved onto Anderlecht.

The forward’s first season at Elland Road saw Leeds finish seventh under Garry Monk, whilst the following campaign they struggled to mid-table.

Last year, however, Leeds impressed in the Championship and finished third in the table, with Roofe striking 15 goals on the back of Bielsa’s arrival.

Yet, Leeds were to be denied automatic promotion and then crashed out of the play-offs after a thrilling clash with Derby County in the semi-finals.

The Verdict

Roofe might’ve left Leeds, but Leeds clearly hasn’t left the striker.

Despite not playing for the club any longer, Roofe hold Leeds close to his heart and he wants to see them succeed.

It’s a shame he never got the chance to get to the Premier League with the Whites, but things weren’t meant to be.
