Keith Hill has confirmed that he expects several players to leave Bolton Wanderers before the end of the month.

The Trotters are treading a tight financial line this term meaning that funds are limited to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window.

Hill's side 18 points from safety and the Bolton boss is determined to strengthen his squad this month.

However if the League One strugglers are to do that, Hill says that they'll need to move some players on to reignite things at the University Of Bolton Stadium.

Asked if players are taking their spots for granted, as quoted by The Bolton News, Hill said: “That’s the harsh reality but it’s a sad way to reflect it.

“It’s probably not exactly the right way. There’s a lot of dignity on that training pitch, the desire to do better and improve, to represent BWFC. It’s not a group of players who are here for the sake of it.

“There are certainly players here who know I have been trying to move them on since the word ‘go’ since I got to the club. Some of those players are still on the training pitch, which is making it difficult for me to bring players in.

“We want players who make us stronger, make us better, but the ramifications of the embargo are still evident every single day with respect to me trying to recruit, release, recruit, release.

“It isn’t a question of me falling out with players. I give them due respect. But players who are not wanted have to leave.”

The verdict

It's been a horrendous 12 months or so for Bolton Wanderers.

The League One club were tasked with cobbling together a squad of players that could overcome a 12-point deficit and unfortunately things just haven't gone to plan.

Keith Hill's team needs to be freshened up but with funds at a premium it's proving to be an impossible task.

Of course this situation is preferable to what appeared to be the alternative, but Hill will be praying for a breakthrough in the coming days if they're to mount any sort of challenge to avoid the drop this term.
