Sky Sports pundit Keith Andrews has hailed the impact of on-loan West Bromwich Albion midfielder Grady Diangana this season.

The 22-year-old joined on-loan from West Ham United last summer and in 21 Championship appearances, he's scored five goals for the club. His parent club hold him in high-regards and Andrews believes that they weren't all that keen on letting him go out on-loan at first.

"I've been very impressed right from the off," he told Sky Sports. "His move happened quite late in the window last summer and I think that was much to do with the fact there was so much interest and maybe whether West Ham really wanted him to go.

"I'm sure he was in the plans but I think they came to the right conclusion in letting him go out and then it was about finding the best possible environment where he could flourish and play enough minutes."

West Brom have several players on-loan this season - the likes of Matheus Pereira and Filip Krovinovic who've been pivotal in West Brom's season - and Slaven Bilic has been praised for his keen eye in the loan-market.

Diangana first announced himself to the Baggies fans with a brace in the 2-1 win at Luton Town back in August.

"He came off the bench against Luton in his first game and scored two goals and he's been a revelation since," explained Andrews. "The injury hampered things a little bit but I've been very impressed."

The Englishman has only played 24 minutes of Championship football in 2020 and hasn't played a full game since West Brom beat Sheffield Wednesday in November.

"He's been fantastic and the one thing he does is get them up the pitch quickly," continued Andrews.

"He's got electric pace, whereas last year they (West Brom) were having to be very precise in how they built up play. Now they've got a more dynamic team and in him in particular they've got raw pace."

Athleticism is Diangana's main asset. Bilic has plenty of pace at his disposal but Diangana's is remarkable, and a factor that compliments both his and Bilic's style of play well.

The verdict

He could seek another loan spell next year and it could well be another at The Hawthorns. It will depend on whether West Brom go up or not, and indeed where West Ham finish their season, but one thing's for sure and that's that Diangana is a fine prospect.
