Sheffield Wednesday are set for an interesting summer ahead, with a number of players facing an uncertain future over their futures at Hillsborough.

The Owls are currently sat 23rd in the Championship table, and are nine points adrift of safety heading into their final ten matches of this year's campaign.

Some key players are out-of-contract at the end of the 2020/21 season, with goalkeeper Keiren Westwood being one of those whose future remains somewhat 'up in the air'.

The shot-stopper has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, and will be hoping he can play his part in their battle for survival this term.

The Irishman has been with the club since 2014, and has established himself as Darren Moore's first-choice goalkeeper between the posts.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference (quotes sourced from Yorkshire Live) ahead of their match against promotion-chasing Barnsley, Westwood admitted that no contract talks have taken place over his future, as they focus on the club's battle for survival in the Championship this term.

"Being brutally honest with you, contract talks are not on anyone's minds at the moment.

"People know what I think of this club. I have played a lot of games at this club. There have not been any contract talks. We have got more pressing matters at the moment."

The Verdict:

This isn't surprising to hear.

Sheffield Wednesday need to be focusing solely on their bid for survival in the Championship at the moment, and can't afford for any distractions anytime soon.

I'd be surprised if Westwood did sign a new deal with the club if they were relegated into League One though, as he's already shown that he's more than capable of performing to a good enough standard in the Championship.

But he'll be fully-focused on Sheffield Wednesday's relegation battle for now, before making any sort of decision on his future at Hillsborough beyond this summer.
