Sheffield Wednesday keeper Keiren Westwood has praised the Owls fans for the backing they've given him and the team.

It's been a tough season for the Yorkshire outfit who are in a position where they have little to play for in terms of promotion or relegation.

And, it's also been a tough campaign for Westwood, who was controversially left out under former boss Jos Luhukay.

However, he has returned to the side since he departed - a decision that has been popular with the fans.

Speaking to the club's media, the former Ireland international revealed the impact the fans can have on the team and expressed his appreciation at how they've taken to him over the years:

"When you know you’ve got the backing of the fans you play better, because you want to do well for them, and they want you to do well. It’s a mutual thing and it’s great.

"I’ve been here a long time now. Ever since I walked through the door it’s been great to be honest."

The 34-year-old is sure to continue in goal when Bruce's side host Swansea this weekend.

The Verdict

Westwood has been a very good player for Wednesday over the years and it's clear to see he is appreciated at Hillsborough.

The fans will enjoy reading his comments and it gives an insight into the impact they can have on the players.

Whether he stays beyond the summer remains to be seen but he is still a very good player at this level.
